As part of efforts to improve the standards of learning through providing quality infrastructure, the People’s Own Savings Bank (POSB) donated and officially handed over outdoor study benches to Midlands State University for use by students on Friday, 14 June 2019 at a ceremony held at the University.

In his opening remarks, the Pro-Vice Chancellor Business Development and Administration, Professor Kadmiel Wekwete extended a gesture of gratitude to POSB for the donation and also emphasised the need for further cooperation between the two institutions.

“I would like to thank our partner, POSB for their firm support to Midlands State University which continues to grow as evidenced by the study benches donation that we have gathered here for.

“I hope as we move into the future, you will open up to more requests from us as we explore new ways in which we can work together to improve the lives of the students. For example, we would appreciate if you would consider engaging our students at your institution for their work-related learning, provide scholarships for our Postgraduate students and even in sports.

“We also appreciate your efforts in providing financial solutions not only to our students but to our staff members as well and it is our greatest hope that this partnership will continue to grow in leaps and bounds,” he said.

POSB Regional Manager, Sydney Chasekwa reaffirmed the bank’s unwavering commitment to partner and explore various business opportunities with the Midlands State University.

“Firstly, I would like to extend my thanks to MSU for providing us with numerous business opportunities and we also want to reassure Midlands State University that in us, they have an equally capable business partner who is willing to foster growth of our partners through provision of financially based solutions.

“In the near future, we will be looking forward to providing MSU students with student cards that will assist them with various financial services and our institution will keep close contact with the Work-Related Learning Office so that we continue to engage more students at POSB.”

This donation from POSB will go a long way in creating smart study and relaxation spaces outside the lecture rooms.

The Dean of Students Mr Isheunesu Chaka thanked POSB for their generous gesture and assured the donors that students will immensely benefit from the benches they have donated to Midlands State University’s Main Gweru and the Zvishavane Campuses.

The event was also graced by the Head of Retail Banking at POSB, Alfred Bhaikwa and several heads of departments from the University.
