Midlands State University has welcomed first-year, first-semester (level 1:1) students who were accepted for the February 2020 and August 2020 intakes.
Speaking at the Gweru Main Campus, during the first day of orientation on Monday 7 August 2020, the Acting Dean of Students, Ms F Chakauya welcomed the freshmen and outlined the importance of the orientation programme in preparing them for life at MSU. She also urged the new students to work hard to realise their full potential and reiterated the University’s commitment to the welfare of students.
“Your only competition is yourself; you should always push yourselves to become better and aim high in everything that you do … we are here for you in every way possible. If you need assistance or counselling services, visit our resident counsellors Mrs T Shumba and Ms E Mabika”, she said.
 
The University Director of Residence, Ms M Vhiriri took time to explain to students COVID-19 protocols and guidelines that they are expected to adhere to during their stay at MSU.
Meanwhile, Student Representative Council (SRC) Minister of Health, Food and Environmental Management, Honourable Saddam Saungweme impressed upon new students the need to embrace diversity, unity and tolerance among the student body.
Departments that participated in the orientation programme included the Health Services, Security Services and Central Services and Amenities among others.
Orientation and face-to-face lectures for the level 1:1 conventional students will run from the 7th to the 19th of September 2020.
