Midlands State University athletes have proven once again that they are made of sterner stuff and reaffirmed the University’s status as a sports powerhouse, as they finished in pole position at the 2021 edition of the Zimbabwe Universities Sports Association (ZUSA) games held from the 3rd to the 5th of November 2021 at the University’s Gweru Main Campus.
On their way to victory, Team MSU picked up 5 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 3 bronze medals to emerge winners ahead of perennial rivals the University of Zimbabwe and the National University of Science and Technology who finished as first and second runners-up respectively. Other institutions that took part in the games are Lupane State University, Chinhoyi University of Technology, Women’s University in Africa, Bindura University of Science Education, Great Zimbabwe University and Harare Institute of Technology.
Despite a two-year absence due to COVID-19, the games were a resounding success with athletes competing for top honours in tennis, table tennis, chess, pool and darts.
The games which were held under strict COVID-19 guidelines also marked a much-anticipated return to sporting activities across various universities.
On behalf of the entire University community, we would like to congratulate Team MSU on a job well done. Congratulations! Makorokoto! Amhlope!
