As part of efforts to stimulate research, innovation and industrialisation, Midlands State University(MSU) is hosting a two-day Research and Innovation Exposé from the 21st to the 22nd of September which will be followed by an Open Day on the 23rd of September 2022  at the University’s Main Campus in Gweru.

The inaugural Exposé which is running under the theme, ‘Explore Your Future with Midlands State University; Research, Innovate and Industrialise,’ was officially opened by MSU Pro-Vice Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Industrialisation, Professor Grace Mugumbate who was representing the MSU Vice Chancellor, Professor Victor Ngonidzashe Muzvidziwa.

Professor Mugumbate highlighted that the Exposé is a showcase of the collaborative efforts between the University and its partners in their drive to promote research, innovation and industrialisation in response to the core principles of Education 5.0, Vision 2030 and National Development Strategy 1.

She added that the Exposé is aimed at showcasing products from innovators, students, academics, researchers, entrepreneurs, small to medium enterprises, youths and the community.

The Executive Director of Research and Post Graduate Innovation, Professor Laurine Chikoko expressed her gratitude for the rich culture of research, innovation and commercialisation not only among faculty and institute members but also amongst the University’s students.

Faculty Executive Deans presented on the various researches and innovations from their faculties namely; Faculty of Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources Management; Faculty of Arts and Humanities; Faculty of Business Sciences; Faculty of Education; Faculty of Engineering and Geosciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences; Faculty of Science and Technology; and Faculty of Social Sciences. Executives’ directors of institutes namely the Tugwi-Mukosi Multi-Disciplinary Institute, Gender Institute, MSU National Language Institute as well as MSU Enterprises and the Librarian also presented on their products and services.

Music Business, Musicology and Technology Department’s music band provided an enchanting and scintillating musical showcase as delegates explored research and innovation exhibits from MSU institutes, faculties, students and stakeholders including; CBZ Bank, Zimbo Foods, Dibcom, Mkoba Teachers College, and Teecherz Home and Office Furniture.

Great Zimbabwe University, Gweru Polytechnic College and Mutare Polytechnic College were among the sister institutions that attended the event.

This event was graced by members of the University community that included the Acting Pro-Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Professor Alois Solomon Chiromo, Principal Officers, Executive Deans and Directors, MSU staff and students.

The Open Day will succeed the Research and Innovation Expo, in an event aimed at empowering and equipping prospective students with invaluable information in making valuable career choices.
