His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, and Chancellor of the Midlands State University, Cde. Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, on Friday the 2nd of December 2022 conferred degrees to a record 6 6995 graduates at an animated ceremony held in the University’s Gweru Main Campus.
Out of the total graduates, 3519 are female and 3476 are male; with 974 postgraduates inclusive of 5 DPhil and 2 MPhil students.
Speaking at this historic 23rd Congregation of the Midlands State University’s graduation ceremony, Vice Chancellor Professor Victor Ngonidzashe Muzvidziwa highlighted that the University continues to make great strides in contributing to the achievement of the national vision 2030 thanks to the combined efforts of members of staff, students and University Council.
“We owe our achievements to our remaining dedicated academic staff members who have been resolute in creating and disseminating knowledge, and our support staff.
“These have persevered in the face of inadequate remuneration which has sent many of our talented people into the diaspora.
“We also commend our students who have worked tirelessly to earn their degrees; our Council for providing distinguished strategic leadership; and parents, guardians and sponsors for funding our graduands’ education,” said Professor V. N. Muzvidziwa.
Professor Muzvidziwa also highlighted the University’s major milestones in research and innovation as well as student achievements.
“Our commitment to the innovation ecosystem in its entirety has seen the birth of start-up companies namely, Culinary Delicacies, Nerd-iQ, Midlands Scientific, Real Lego Bricks, and Herbicure.
“These start-ups cover application of Artificial Intelligence in managing business information and security, food and nutrition, and plastic waste recycling,” remarked Professor Victor N. Muzvidziwa.
The ceremony was punctuated by music and dance led by the ever delightful and creative MSU Band.
In his closing remarks, the Vice Chancellor congratulated the students for working tirelessly to earn their degrees.
“In concluding, I wish all our graduands success as proud alumni of MSU,” highlighted Professor Muzvidziwa.
During the same ceremony, the graduates pledged unwavering commitment to support the vision and mission of the University.
The graduation ceremony was graced by various guests among them, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in the Midlands Province, Senator Larry Mavima Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Professor Dr. Amon Murwira, Deputy Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Honourable Raymore Machingura, Permanent Secretary for Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Professor Fanuel Tagwira, Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Honourable July Moyo, Mayor of the City of Gweru Councillor H. Kombayi, Vice Chancellors from sister universities, members of the University Council and Senate, captains of industry, parents and guardians as well as members of the University Community.
