Midlands State University (MSU) marked the commencement of the 2025 academic year with a comprehensive orientation programme across its campuses, welcoming the new students in a series of events from 17th to 20th February 2025.

The main ceremony, held at the Multi-Purpose Hall in Gweru, saw Dr. G. Manyatera – the Pro-Vice Chancellor – Infrastructure and Campus Development, delivering an inspiring keynote address on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Professor V. N. Muzvidziwa.

Following the national anthem and an opening prayer by Acting Chaplain Rev. Chinodakufa, set the tone for the proceedings.

The University Registrar, Mr. T. Zishiri missed no word in articulating that Midlands State University is a place where lives are positively transformed if one follows the University’s culture.

“Today, you embark on a transformative journey at MSU, where knowledge meets ambition, dreams become reality, and your academic path shapes your future,” remarked Mr. Zishiri in his opening address.

Dr. Manyatera emphasised the institution’s quarter-century legacy of excellence in the Vice Chancellor’s keynote speech.

“As you step into this new chapter, you are now joining a university that, for 25 years, has been dedicated to grooming world-class leaders. Leaders who not only stand out in Zimbabwe but across the globe,” he declared.

The orientation programme extended to the University’s Zvishavane Campus, where the Faculty of Arts and Humanities welcomed its new cohort of students.

Zvishavane Campus Director, Dr. Z. E. Mugari addressed the students, emphasising the University’s commitment to collaborative learning and community impact.

“Through collaboration, intellectual growth, and visionary leadership, we shape our futures, not only for ourselves but for the communities and the world we serve,” Dr Mugari noted.

He highlighted MSU’s track record of producing distinguished alumni who have represented Zimbabwe in international sporting teams and become pioneers across various industries.

The ceremonies featured a blend of academic and cultural elements, including performances from the Music Business, Musicology and Technology Department.

Student leadership played an active role, with the Student Representative Council, President, Mr. Dilan Simonje encouraging new students to take advantage of university support services.

The Executive Dean of Students, Ms. Fadzai Chakauya, as represented by the Residence Coordinator, Mr. P. Ncube also provided a comprehensive overview of student services and opportunities available across all campuses.

The orientation programme underscored MSU’s position as a leading institution in Zimbabwe’s tertiary education sector, demonstrating its commitment to fostering an environment where academic excellence, cultural diversity, and leadership development converge to shape the next generation of global leaders.

The events concluded with students’ representatives across campuses assuring the new intake of their excellent choice in joining MSU, setting an optimistic tone for the academic journey ahead.
