OBJECTIVES

To provide training in the academic discipline of Ethnomusicology, enabling students to gain a theoretical underpinning to face the diverse practices of African Music, and to develop a community consciousness.

To give an insight into the sociological, psychological and ethnomusicological aspects of Music, and the interaction with the other elements of culture.

To provide an in-depth understanding of the musical traditions of Zimbabwe, Africa and other cultures of the world, including Jazz and popular Music, as well as the different challenges pertaining to the Music Industry and any other Music related fields.

PROGRAMME

Bachelor of Science in Music Business, Musicology and Technology Honours Degree

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS 

Candidates should have satisfied the general entry requirements for undergraduate degrees of the Midlands State University.

Candidates must meet the normal entry requirements of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

For Special and Mature entry, candidates should have satisfied the general academic regulations for Special as well as Mature entry for undergraduate degrees of the Midlands State University.

The candidate should have passed at least 5 subjects at O’ Level, or equivalents, with at least 3 among the following :

Literature in English, Religious studies, History, Geography, Sociology, Law, Economics, Shona, Ndebele, Art, Music, Computer Studies, Principles of Accounts, Management of Business, or any African Languages and Culture subjects.

The candidate should have A’ Level passes in any 2 of the following :

Art, Music, English Literature, Divinity, History, Geography, Sociology, Law, Economics, Management of Business, Computer Studies, Shona, Ndebele, any African Language, any Media Studies subjects.
