MSU School of Social Work hosted the inaugural lecture Professor Rodreck Mupedziswa inaugural lecture, on the 29th of September 2023.
Titled, ‘Social Development in Africa: Reflections Milestones and Future Directions,’ the lecture was held at the MSU School of Social Work in Harare.
Professor Mupedziswa is an external examiner at the MSU School of Social Work and Head of the Social Work Department at the University of Botswana.
In his welcome remarks, MSU Harare Campus Director, Dr. Terrance Mashingaidze extended his appreciation to seasoned academic and transnational consultant in the field of social work, Professor Mupedziswa, for conducting the lecture which will enable scholarly exchange and collaborations.
“Public lectures are friendly platforms for information and scholarly exchanges and collaborations.
“They are premised on the principle that open-minded engagement with thinkers and activists on the frontiers of re-envisioning and reimagining the economy, society, politics and the environment triggers a heightened sense of awareness about the crosscutting demands and challenges of our times,” remarked Dr. Mashingaidze.
Professor Mupedziswa commenced his lecture by extending his appreciation to the MSU Vice Chancellor Professor Victor Ngonidzashe Muzvidziwa for the opportunity to conduct an inaugural lecture.
His lecture elaborated and clarified a variety of social work models including the lateral model and the 7Cs.
‘‘Social work is more than just a profession, it is a calling and a way of life,’’ remarked Professor Mupedziswa as he concluded the lecture.
Attendants had the opportunity to ask questions and comment on the lecture.
Renowned gospel singer and Diploma in Social Work student, Fungisai Zvakavapano Mashavave commended Professor Mupedziswa for the elaborate lecture and promised to apply the lessons learnt.
In his vote of thanks, Fieldwork Coordinator, Mr. Matanga, extended his gratitude to Professor Mupedziswa for the thought-provoking lecture and to the University for providing the platform for dialogue in areas to do with social work.
